This work was inspired by Paolo Sorrentino's film «The Young Pope». It made me realise that religion and canons are superficial and faith is universal for all human beings. The Young Pope also made me think that everything that we do in life is normal and natural so long as we do it with a pure heart. The Disco Pope from my painting has a pure heart. He is handsome, young and sincere. And it may seem that his yellow mantle is vulgar and his cross is too glitzy. But it does not matter how you are dressed, where you are and what music you dance to – what matters is whether you carry a light within you – as bright as a disco ball. We do not see the Pope's hands because they are beyond the borders of the canvas, they are close to us. The Pope is holding the hands of each of us.
